We are up and running with phase 2 of the web site for DO
NO HARM: Australians for Ethical Stem Cell Research at www.ethicalstemcellresearch.blogspot.com
The 'iPS' revolution in stem cell science in November 2007, which
has rendered cloning redundant, was called "an earthquake
for both the science and ethics of stem cells". That earthquake
has created a rupture so radical that we need to divide our web
information into 'pre-iPS' and 'post-iPS'.
All material from 2003 to 2007, ‘pre-iPS’, is still
available at this site (CONTINUE to cloning.org.au)
and remains the foundation of our argument for ethical stem cell
research.
Now, ‘post-iPS’, our new Blog celebrates the triumph
of ethical stem cell research, and works towards repeal of laws
that permit cloning and experimentation on human embryos.
We intend to convince Federal MPs during the 2010 review of Australia's
cloning laws that cloning was justified on a ‘good-faith’
premise (that only SCNT-cloning can produce patient-matched plutipotent
stem cells) but that with the advent of iPS, that premise is no
longer valid. Cloning is now a redundant science; no cloning law
would ever have seen the light of day if MPs had known a few years
ago what we know now. The laws that underpin this redundant and
unethical science must now be repealed.
Watch this space: ethical stem cell science will continue to
thrive - a magnificent science we can all live with. The grotesquely
inhuman science of embryo experimentation and cloning has no putative
uses now, only abuses, and must be closed down.
